Exciting news! Legend Press is publishing my first novel, White Powder of Gold, on 3rd June. Having written over 70 non-fiction books, my debut Indiana-Jones-style adventure was a long time coming.
Inspired by Ötze, the prehistoric iceman whose mummy appeared in a melting glacier in 1991, my story is a science fantasy starring Dr Saxon de Carey – an emergency medicine physician and Fellow of All Saints College, Cambridge.
Described by my editor as ‘brilliant, calm, principled and compassionate’, his imperfections are soon laid bare after stumbling on the tomb of an ancient Egyptian god … one whose skeleton is 3 metres long, with a large domed skull and six digits on his hands and feet. My fantasy evolved from there.
Other themes came from the fascinating articles I’ve read over the years on the weirdness of Quantum Mechanics, the conundrum of time, psychic healing and our extrasensory perceptions. I’m particularly fascinated by the anomalous behaviour of elements in the platinum group of metals and thought … what if gold had three physical phases as different from one another as diamond is to graphite and soot?
The cover features the fabled Solar Calendar of Tehuti, last of the Ancient Egyptian Gods, as created by my talented son, Saxon Brewer-Marchant, while the gorgeous malachite background derived from images of Nefertiti (who also appears in my story). I love how the Oroboros snake – which eats its own tail to symbolise the cycle of time – wraps around the book spine.
Fancy seeing your name in hieroglyphs?
I learned to write hieroglyphs during my research to help make the story feel more authentic. Although the ShemsuHor language I invented is different from Ancient Egyptian, it uses the same glyphs which I love playing with.
So, I’m offering to translate the name of anyone who posts a book review of White Powder Of Gold on Amazon or social media. To take part, and have your name written in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, either post a link to your review in the comments below, or join my FaceBook group by clicking this link: https://lnkd.in/e6yfuU2k hashtag#WPoG
I hope you enjoy reading White Powder of Gold as much as I enjoyed writing it!
